Earlier this season the old Plan Joran chair lift was replaced by a new state-of-the-art gondola in the Grands Montets sector of Chamonix.
Replaces the old four-seater chairlift
The old chairlift was a four-seater that was installed in 1986.
As well as leaving skiers and snowboarders exposed to the elements, the capacity of only 1500 people per hour (and 500 for the Lognan chairlift) had led to queues forming at peak times.
New lift opened in Dec 2014
The new Poma ‘Dual Drive Multix 10’ lift is more comfortable and fast, taking 10 people at a time and travelling at 6 m/second. The lift can carry up to 3000 people per hour – more than doubling the previous capacity.
The development had been scheduled for several years, but was delayed due to planning delays.
Work eventually began in May 2014 and the lift was officially opened on 20 December 2014.
