If you\u2019re a well-travelled skier \u2013 or want to be \u2013 then the new Ski Resort Map of the Alps should be of interest.<\/p>\n

Claimed to be the first map of its kind, it sets out 600 resorts and shows a detailed transport network of roads, railways, airports and ferries that lead to them, helping holidaymakers plan their travel.<\/p>\n

More than 600 resorts listed<\/strong><\/p>\n

In total there are 640 indexed resorts and over 30 airports, with detailed information on 100 selected resorts including the extent of downhill and cross-country skiing, number of lifts, altitude range, availability of glacier skiing and accessibility by train.<\/p>\n

Among the many facts you could learn from the map are that:<\/p>\n

  1. Italy <\/a>has the broadest spread of resorts stretching some 500km from La Thuile (in the west) to Selle Nevea (in the east)<\/li>\n
  2. Nearly 150 ski resorts can be reached directly by train<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Friedrichshafen, Geneva, Lyon, Milan Malpensa, Munich, Turin, Vienna and Zurich airports all have dedicated railway stations.<\/li>\n
  4. The closest resort to the Mediterranean is Gr\u00e9oli\u00e8res les Neiges, just 15 miles from the Proven\u00e7al coast, with views across to Corsica on a clear day.<\/li>\n
  5. There are several ferry stops on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland where cable cars or funicular railways can lift you from lakeside to piste for the ultimate transfer experience.<\/li>\n
  6. Innsbruck has the biggest choice of resorts within a short distance of a major airport. There are three ski areas, including Kuhtai<\/a>, within just 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Neil Guthrie, one of the creators of the map, told us that \u201cBritish skiers tend to flock to the same few resorts every year. We\u2019re hoping our map will encourage them to broaden their horizons.\u201d<\/p>\n
