{"id":1249,"date":"2018-01-22T14:39:21","date_gmt":"2018-01-22T14:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1249"},"modified":"2018-01-22T14:42:21","modified_gmt":"2018-01-22T14:42:21","slug":"are-there-wolves-in-meribel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/2018\/01\/are-there-wolves-in-meribel\/","title":{"rendered":"Are there wolves in Meribel?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It wasn&#8217;t so long ago when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/france\/les-trois-vallees\">Les 3 Vallees<\/a> was a huge forest and there were no ski lifts at all.<\/p>\n<p>However, since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/meribel\">Meribel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/courchevel-1850\">Couchevel<\/a> first became ski resorts after the Second World War, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/val-thorens\">Val Thorens<\/a> and Les Menuires in the late-Sixties and La Tania in the 1990s, the region has become a playground for skiers and is now officially &#8216;the largest ski area in the world&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>All of which means there&#8217;s not as much wildlife as there used to be. You can still quite regularly see <em>sanglier<\/em> (wild boar), chamois and <em>cerf<\/em> (deer), especially in summer.<\/p>\n<p>But now, according to reports in local newspaper\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ledauphine.com\/savoie\/2017\/12\/10\/un-loup-photographie-en-plein-jour\">Le Dauphin\u00e9 Lib\u00e9r\u00e9<\/a>, a wolf has recently been spotted near Meribel.<\/p>\n<p>This photo shows a purported wolf, photographed in full daylight.
