Serre Chevalier<\/a> has announced that it plans to invest \u20ac134m in the resort over the next 30 years.<\/p>\n

Most of the money will go into upgrading the lift system, with \u20ac83.5m allocated to new lifts. Compagnie des Alpes \u2013 owners of the resort \u2013 are also committing \u20ac10.9m to creating artificial snow, \u20ac33million on snow groomers and more \u2018regular\u2019 investments.<\/p>\n

The program is supported by \u20ac2.8 million regional grant with the rest coming out of the Compagnie des Alpes pocket.<\/p>\n

60 million in six years<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bulk of the investment will focus on the first six years.\u00a0Patrick Arnaud, CEO of Serre Chevalier ski area wants to improve all the links between the different \u2018stations<\/em>\u2019:<\/p>\n

“In 2010, we opened the Vallons chairlift to connect Villeneuve and Le Mon\u00eatier;\u00a0and this year we opened the Rocher-Blanc chairlift for the Brian\u00e7on-Chantemerle route.\u201d<\/p>\n

More high-capacity chairlifts will be introduced and older models replaced, especially where there\u2019s an opportunity to improve safety for children.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to secure the \u2018skiability\u2019 of the area and will increase the area covered by artificial snow, including optimising the technology with more units to create snow at marginal temperatures.”<\/p>\n

2600 new beds<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the conditions of Compagnie des Alpes was that the resort needs to increase the number of beds in resort. The target is 2600 new beds, distributed between the municipalities of La Salle-les-Alpes and Le Mon\u00eatier-les-Bains.\u00a0According to Patrick Arnaud, these should allow the resort to increase low season numbers by 20%.<\/p>\n
