The latest in our \u2018What\u2019s New\u2019 round-ups (after Courchevel<\/a> and the Portes du Soleil<\/a>) is Serre Chevalier \u2013 and there\u2019s plenty to catch up on\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Eychauda and Cibou\u00eft chairlifts <\/strong>
\nThe Monetier sector will see an EUR8 million investment in\ntwo new chairlifts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, there will be a brand new 6-person high-speed chairlift to replace the existing Eychauda lift. This will make it much faster to go from Mon\u00eatier to Villeneuve. In addition, the Cibou\u00eft chairlift will also be replaced with a new 4-person chairlift. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

80th<\/sup> Anniversary celebrations<\/strong>
\nWhen it was inaugurated in 1941, the Chantemerle gondola was\nthe longest in Europe – it is now one of the symbols of the valley and will\ncelebrate its 80th<\/sup>annniversary in\n2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renewable Energy<\/strong>
Last winter, Serre Chevalier was\u00a0the first ski resort to produce its own electricity\u00a0combining\u00a0three types of renewable energy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\u00a0hydroelectricity, through the snow-making network
– 1420 solar-powered photovoltaic panels
– two micro-wind turbines<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resort has a goal of producing\u00a030% of its electricity needs from renewables by 2021. This season will see a new wind turbine\u00a0installed at the top of Prorel and four new solar panel sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
