{"id":2067,"date":"2022-02-23T14:33:47","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T14:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2067"},"modified":"2022-02-23T14:34:17","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T14:34:17","slug":"paralympics-gb-confirms-ski-snowboard-team-for-beijing-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/2022\/02\/paralympics-gb-confirms-ski-snowboard-team-for-beijing-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Paralympics GB confirms Ski &#038; Snowboard team for Beijing 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/paralympics.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ParalympicsGB<\/a> has just confirmed one of the biggest ever British teams to compete at a Paralympic Winter Games with the announcement of the ski and snowboard athletes for Beijing 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 Paralympic Winter Games take place from 04-13 March and are expected to be the biggest ever, featuring an estimated 600 athletes from more than 50 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team GB will have 20 individuals taking part in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing (Biathlon and Cross-Country) and Snowboard, plus five Wheelchair Curlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be the largest Paralympic team at a Winter Games since Lillehammer in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-1024x350.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-1024x350.png 1024w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-768x262.png 768w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-1536x525.png 1536w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-190x65.png 190w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-60x20.png 60w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam-400x137.png 400w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/parateam.png 1701w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ALPINE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alpine skiing team is very strong, led by defending Paralympic Slalom Champion and PyeongChang 2018 multiple medallist, Menna Fitzpatrick, competing with new guide Katie Guest.<br><br>PyeongChang 2018 triple medallist, Millie Knight, will also be one to watch, partnered again by Brett Wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Knight competes in the Visually Impaired Classification together with Paralympic debutant Neil Simpson, who is guided by his brother, Andrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All three athletes (Fitzpatrick, Knight and Simpson) enjoyed podiums at the 2021 World Para Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer earlier this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another debutant will be Shona Brownlee, who is making her Games debut after only four years in the sport. She is joined in the Sitting Class by Alex Slegg and Dan Sheen, who both went to PyeongChang on the Paralympic Inspiration Programme, which was created to give aspiring athletes a taste of the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Standing Class, James Whitley will be looking to build on the experience he gained in multiple events at Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Meet the ParalympicsGB Beijing 2022 snow sport athletes\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZUVa_55aoxE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NORDIC<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Five athletes will take part in Nordic skiing, four more than at Pyeongchang 2018, when Scott Meenagh became the first British athlete to compete in Nordic Paralympic events for 20 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow military veteran Steve Arnold will take part in the Biathlon and Cross-Country events. They will be joined by debutant Callum Deboys, who was inspired to take up the sport after meeting Meenagh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also taking part in Cross-Country will be the multi-talented Steve Thomas, who will be taking part in his sixth Paralympics, having represented Team GB in sailing from 2004-2016 as well as being part of the Para Ice Hockey team at Turin 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hope Gordon completes the team.
