Often under-rated and ignored in favour of the more famous French resorts, <a href=\"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/serre-chevalier\">Serre Chevalier<\/a> has a great snow record and a huge 250km ski area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Commitment to sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What is also less well known is that Serre Chevalier has significantly committed to sustainability in a way that leaves other ski resorts behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrick Arnaud is Managing Director of SCV Domaine Skiable, the company that operates the lifts in Serre Chevalier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s his vision that persuaded the resort\u2019s owners Compagnie des Alpes to invest almost \u20ac4 million, thanks also to the support of the region, Sud-Provence-Alpes -C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Serre Chevalier Vall\u00e9e : nos engagements pour l&#039;avenir.\" width=\"510\" height=\"287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d3B_CcpNwQY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Focus on renewable energy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That investment has allowed Serre Chevalier to become not just a ski resort, but also a producer of renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2016, the resort has invested in hydroelectric power, solar photovoltaic power and wind power to the extent that SCV now produces 30% of its required electricity needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resort is now moving on the second phase of its plan: a target of 50% self-sufficiency. As a consequence of these efficiency improvements, the resort\u2019s fleet has decreased from 26 to just 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/skiflightfree.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/EV-dammer-768x545.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Water consumption reduced<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The resort has also rethought its approach to snowmaking. Since 2019, they have reviewed their procedures to save water and electricity. Through this approach, they have reduced water consumption from 700,000m3 to 500,000m3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cFor us, there are no environmental constraints because the environment is our livelihood, it is thanks to this ecosystem that we can keep the valley alive.
