Work has started on replacing the Vallon de l’Iseran gondola in the Fornet sector of Val d’Is\u00e8re<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The old lift carried skiers for the last time earlier this month after 41 years in operation and nearly 25 million rotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New 10-seater gondola<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The six-seater lift was inaugurated in 1983 and will be replaced with a 10-seater gondola for the 2024\/25 winter season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost of the project is a hefty \u20ac18 million, but the new lift will increase uphill capacity by 85% to 1350 people per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journey will take 6 minutes and 30 seconds to travel from 2324m to the top station of 2790m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New base and top stations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The base station will move location slightly and while the top station will remain in the same spot, it will also be rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environmental impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every effort will be made to ensure a limited impact on the environment. This means that 32 existing pylons will be removed as well as two button lifts, with revegetation taking place in those areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to open in December 2024<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new lift will open in December 2024 in time for the 2024\/25 winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
