The French Alps have been named the IOC’s preferred candidate to host the 2030 Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The joint bid announced last year between Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur is now almost assured to win the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

France has hosted three times previously<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There have been three previous winter games hosted in France, starting with the first ever Winter Olympics in Chamonix in 1924, followed by Grenoble in 1968 and Albertville in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, France has plenty of experience of major events, having hosted 94 World Championships or World Cups in the last decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Venues<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The French plan proposes to use multiple resorts and regions to host the different events:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Grand-Bornand: Cross-country ski, biathlon
La Plagne: Bobsleigh, luge, skeleton
M\u00e9ribel: Alpine skiing
Courchevel: Alpine skiing, ski jumping
Bozel: Olympic Village
Montgen\u00e8vre<\/a>: Freestyle skiing and snowboarding
Serre-Chevalier<\/a>: Freestyle skiing and snowboarding
Brian\u00e7on: Olympic Village
Nice: Figure skating, curling, short-track skating, ice hockey<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announcement due in July after Summer Olympics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An IOC delegation visited the proposed venues in April 2024 and the bid is likely to be confirmed absolutely in a vote on July 24 in Paris after the Paris Summer Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
