Powder fields, cliff jumps, and natural pipes: the new freeride routes that have been created on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier\u00a0near\u00a0Zell am See-Kaprun<\/a>,\u00a0Austria\u00a0are heaven-sent for freeriders!<\/p>\n

Already one of the most popular freeride spots in the Alps, the new ‘Freeride XXL’ system puts safety first, and their Freeride Mondays and the Freeride World Qualifier ‘X\u00a0Over Ride 2014’ in March are all innovations for this season.<\/p>\n

Five marked ‘freeride’ routes<\/strong><\/p>\n

With reliable snow conditions and lifts up to 3029m, the\u00a0Kitzsteinhorn glacier is one of the most popular freeride hotspots of the Alps.<\/p>\n

Five marked ski routes provide pure backcountry fun: \u201cIce Age\u201c,\u00a0\u201cWestside Story\u201c, \u201cLeft Wing\u201c, \u201cJump Run\u201c, and \u201cPipe Line\u201c offer freeridiers varied terrain.<\/p>\n

Freeride Info Base and Info Points<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Freeride Info Base next to the Alpincenter and Info Points at the start each\u00a0freeride routes give information on the dangers of off-piste riding, plus\u00a0current weather, snow and\u00a0avalanche conditions.<\/p>\n

Additionally, there is a checkpoint for their avalanche transceivers, equipment\u00a0tips, and much more.<\/p>\n

At the Freeride Info Points, riders can get more detailed information on the\u00a0route, including a topographic map showing the steepness of the slope, dangerous spots, and the most\u00a0beautiful line.<\/p>\n

There is also a free PIEPS Avalanche Training Center offering the perfect opportunity to practice using an avalanche transceiver, probe and\u00a0shovel. Equipped with a touch-screen, the computer-operated installation enables the user to train\u00a0independently at any time. Riders can choose from different levels of difficulty and analyse the results\u00a0on site or online at home.<\/p>\n

X OVER RIDE Kitzsteinhorn<\/strong><\/p>\n

the ‘X OVER RIDE Kitzsteinhorn 2014’ is a 3-star Qualifier of the Swatch Freeride World Tour by The North\u00a0Face, and promises top-level freeriding.<\/p>\n

At this big mountain contest of the world\u2019s most important freeride\u00a0tour, national and international top riders will fight for the prize-money and vital points for the overall\u00a0ranking on March 22, 2014.<\/p>\n

Freeride Mondays<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each Monday from 25 November 2013 to 05 May 2014 Kaprun\u2019s ski\u00a0school offers the opportunity to experience and learn how to freeride. \u00a0On Freeride Mondays,\u00a0two Kaprun ski schools give skiers and snowboarders (13 years and older) tips on safety\u00a0and how to improve their riding technique.<\/p>\n

All in all, plenty of reasons to head to Kaprun this year if you’re interested in freeriding or improving your technique.<\/p>\n
