A long-mooted express gondola linking the ski towns of Morzine<\/strong> and Avoriaz<\/strong> is gaining fresh momentum after years of delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new lift would transform access between two of the French Alps\u2019 busiest ski resorts and ease some of the existing bottlenecks in the lift system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed 4-kilometre high-speed t\u00e9l\u00e9cabine would connect Morzine<\/a>\u2019s village centre directly with the Avoriaz ski area<\/a>, slashing travel time to about 25 minutes \u2014 a significant improvement on the current journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seamless Access<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At present, visitors and seasonal workers heading from Morzine<\/a> (1000m) to the higher slopes of Avoriaz (1800m) rely on a combination of shuttle buses and the existing Prodains cable car.

During peak weeks, more than one hundred buses run daily, adding to congestion and costing the town around \u20ac3 million per season in public transport subsidies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many locals have argued that the impact of climate change and the rising snowline means that being able to travel seamlessly to higher altitudes will become even more important in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u20ac35 million project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new link would be able to transfer up to 3,000 skiers and snowboarders per hour, offering year-round direct access to Avoriaz\u2019s ski area via the Prodains lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial estimates place the cost of the project at around \u20ac35 million. A key vote on the plan is expected in March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
