Team GB celebrated one of the most significant moments in its Winter Olympic history as Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale claimed gold in the mixed team snowboard cross at the Milan\u2013Cortina Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the first gold medal won by Team GB on snow and together with Matt Weston\u2019s success in the skeleton makes it Britain\u2019s most successful Winter Olympics ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across qualifying rounds, semi-finals and the final, the British pair consistently ranked among the fastest combinations in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the gold medal race, Nightingale delivered a crucial opening run. He crossed the line second in his leg, just 0.14 seconds behind Italy, ensuring Bankes started within striking distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlotte Bankes timed her run to perfection overtaking France\u2019s L\u00e9a Casta with four turns to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Bankes, competing in her fourth Olympics, the gold ended a long wait for an Olympic medal despite multiple World Cup victories and a world titles. Nightingale, 24, secured his first Olympic medal, completing one of the youngest gold-medal pairings in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GB Snowsport still has two more chances for medals with Kirsty Muir competing in the Women\u2019s Ski Big Air on Monday evening and Zoe Atkin in the Women\u2019s Ski Half Pipe on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
