Cervinia is set for one of the biggest new lift investments in the Alps, with a \u20ac197 million project promising to transform the journey from the resort to Plateau Rosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Italian resort has unveiled plans for a new high-capacity lift connection, to be known as \u2018Cervino The One\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fast new 3S lift<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new system will consist of two connected 3S lifts, built by lift manufacturer Leitner. They will cover almost six kilometres, climbing nearly 1500m and reducing the journey time from Cervinia<\/a> via Plan Maison to Plateau Rosa to around 17 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once complete, the skiers and snowboarders will move at up to 8 metres per second \u2013 almost 30km\/h \u2013 and will have capacity for around 3,000 passengers an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A faster start to the day<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For skiers staying in Cervinia, that could make a significant difference to the start of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plateau Rosa sits at around 3500m, providing access to some of the highest skiing in the Alps and connecting the resort with Zermatt in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3S technology the new lift will use is also particularly suited to the high-altitude environment. With three supporting cables, the system offers greater stability in strong winds than conventional cable cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability at heart<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cervinia says the new lift system will be powered using renewable electricity supplied by CVA, the Aosta Valley energy company which produces hydroelectric and wind power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will also be photovoltaic panels at each station, while geothermal energy will be used at Plan Maison to help heat the building. Heat pumps are also planned for all the stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparatory work has already started. The main construction phase is expected to get underway in 2027, with a target to open in December 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
