{"id":452,"date":"2014-07-18T10:01:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T10:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/?p=452"},"modified":"2014-07-18T10:01:36","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T10:01:36","slug":"summer-in-the-alps-theres-so-much-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/2014\/07\/summer-in-the-alps-theres-so-much-to-do\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer in the Alps: there&#8217;s so much to do&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all love the Alps in winter, but what are the mountains like in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/summer\">summer<\/a>? \u00a0Without the snow can it still be as entertaining?<\/p>\n<p>The answer is a resounding &#8216;Yes!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>We recently went out to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/les-deux-alpes\">Les 2 Alpes<\/a> and packed a huge amount into only a few days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skiing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les 2 Alpes is unusual in that like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/tignes\">Tignes<\/a>, it has a glacier that is open in summer. \u00a0You can ski each day from 7am to 12.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>After that the snow can warm up and get a bit slushy, but before then there is some great skiing available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-453\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Skiing on the Les 2 Alpes glacier\" width=\"510\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-190x142.jpg 190w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-60x45.jpg 60w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GOPR0968-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mountain Biking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are two types of mountain biking on offer in the Alps: downhill and cross country.<\/p>\n<p>For downhill, you simply hook your bike up to the chairlift or take it into the gondola with you to the top of the hill and then, like skiing, use gravity to come back down.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-454\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-1024x382.jpg\" alt=\"VTT les 2 alpes\" width=\"510\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-1024x382.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-300x112.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-190x71.jpg 190w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-60x22.jpg 60w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_092907-400x149.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Resorts have marked trails, like the ski pistes in winter, graded by difficulty, that you can follow down to resort. \u00a0A helmet and, in most cases, some protective armour, is vital to ensure safety.<\/p>\n<p>Cross country mountain biking obviously gives you the opportunity to cycle uphill as well as down! \u00a0Make sure you pick your route well before you head off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electric mountain bikes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An inbetween option that Les 2 Alpes offer is an electric mountain bike. \u00a0These are available for hire and have various booster settings that you can use for additional help to get up those steeper slopes.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also a great way for mixed ability couples or groups to be able to enjoy the same routes that might otherwise be inaccessible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-455\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_104708-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"20140714_104708\" width=\"510\" height=\"906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_104708-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_104708-45x80.jpg 45w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_104708-188x335.jpg 188w, https:\/\/chaletline.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/20140714_104708.jpg 1836w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parapenting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is an absolutely stunning way to enjoy the Alps &#8211; as long as you have a head for heights.<\/p>\n<p>Tandem flights take off at resort level &#8211; 1600m &#8211; and depending on the wind, allow you to fly for 20&#8211;25 minutes, using the thermals coming up the cliffs from Venosc below.<\/p>\n<p>This is a truly magical experience &#8211;
