Despite regularly winning awards as ‘Best Ski Resort’ Val Thorens is not resting on its laurels. We look at what’s new in Europe’s highest ski resort for winter 2016\/17…<\/p>\n

1. New Le Roc chairlift<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lift company in Val Thorens<\/a> – SETAM – is investing \u20ac14 million to improve the ski area. \u00a0One of the main developments for next season is the replacement of the Le Roc drag lift with a detachable 6-seater chairlift. \u00a0This will give access to the top of the Les Trolles piste.<\/p>\n

\n2. New Boismint chairlift<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s another detachable 6-seater chair coming to the Boismint sector, which will be faster and with a higher capacity per hour than the previous chair lift.<\/p>\n

\n3. ‘Ski Flux’ real-time queue info<\/strong><\/p>\n

Val Thorens has always been ahead of the curve in terms of digital innovation. In a first for France, the new ‘Ski Flux’ system will give skiers live data about how busy various pistes are. You will also be able to check the snow and weather conditions by slope around the resort.<\/p>\n

4. Vive Le Mono!<\/strong><\/p>\n

You thought monoskiing was over? \u00a0You thought wr0ng! Mon0skiing is back and in Val Thorens this winter Ski Cool<\/a> will be offering private lessons (NB neon one-piece suit not included).<\/p>\n

\n5.\u00a0Aurelie’s Chilled-Out Tea Room<\/strong><\/p>\n

It may be the most unusual name for any Alpine venue you’ll come across this winter, but this new ‘foodie lounge’ will be half gallery\/shop dedicated to mountain artists and half gourmet cafe.<\/p>\n

With a menu including organic soups, ‘Alpine flower detox tea’ and Beaufort cheese muffins, plus yoga classes and a book corner, this new social hub will be worth a visit.<\/p>\n
