When you’re on a ski holiday you want to escape from work, but you might not want to escape from the Internet entirely.
Whether it’s to update your Facebook with a pic of the amazing powder you’ve just skied, or to Skype your mum, staying connected is part of modern life.
Here’s Chaletline.co.uk‘s suggestions for ‘8 Ways To Stay Connected On Your Ski Holiday’:
1. Choose a chalet with free wifi
These days most chalets do have wifi available, but if you use the ‘advanced search‘ feature on Chaletline.co.uk, you can produce a list of all chalets, with wifi, for the resort and date you want to travel.
2. Buy a roaming package for your smartphone
If you love using your phone, then be very wary of switching on roaming while in Europe. Charges for calls and texts can be high, although have been limited by a new EU ruling. However, data can cost even more.
A survey by ‘Which’ showed that to upload 10 photos and make three posts could cost as much as £50, although new rules mean a £42 cap applies. If you do plan to use the Internet a lot, a roaming package such as Vodafone’s ‘Eurotraveller’ service could save you money.
3. Use free wifi on the mountain
A new innovation that will become more popular is wifi on lifts and at lift stations. Val Thorens became the first resort to offer this in 2012 and extended the offer to Orelle last season.
4. Use free wifi in a cafe or bar
You are always going to be on a time limit in a lift, so a more relaxing way to check your emails and Facebook is to go to a cafe at the end of the day. A nice hot chocolate is the perfect accompaniment to boasting (sorry, ‘posting’) about your fantastic day on the mountain. Try the Quiksilver Cafe in Val d’Isere or Evolution in Meribel.
5. Go to McDonalds
And if you can’t find a local, independent cafe, then don’t rule out McDonalds. Okay, you might need to stay off the BigMacs if you go too often, but there’s one right in the centre of Chamonix that has plenty of seats and does a (relatively) decent cup of tea.
And when you are online, of course you should always make sure you follow Chaletline.co.uk on Facebook and Twitter to keep in the loop on all the latest special offers and deals!
