It’s bad news for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as the BBC has reported that he will no longer be able to buy ski lifts from Switzerland.
The country has been trying to develop a ski resort at Masik, partly as a response to South Korea hosting the Winter Olympics in 2018.
However, Switzerland has now ruled that a ‘ski lift’ counts as a luxury export and is therefore prohibited.
The deal was worth over €5 million to the Swiss company Bartholet Maschinenbau.
Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs labelled the resort a “prestigious propaganda project for the regime”.
