Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and always one of the first to open.
This season the lifts will start turning over on 23 November 2013, so with just over a month to go, we take a look at what changes have been made to the lifts for this winter:
2 Lacs 4-seater detachable chair lift
This has been fully renovated to improve beginners’ access and the lift capacity.
A new ‘Gondola’ chair lift
The 3V1 lift has been renamed the ‘TSC des Pionniers’. This is a hybrid 6-seater detachable ski lift, reinforced for better performance in windy weather. A TSC is a gondola chair lift with specially designed 4-person gondolas to allow pedestrians access to the infamous La Folie Douce.
3 Vallées chair lift
The ‘3 Vallées 2’ chair has also changed name and has become a 4-seater detachable using the existing base to minimise the environmental impact. The Bouquetin Funitel has been renamed the Funitel des 3 Vallées to make it easier to understand the routes that head back towards other ski areas.
Peyron chair lift in Orelle
This has been replaced by a 6-seater detachable lift, with improved technical specifications for
better performance in windy weather. It will be easier and faster to reach the highest point of
the 3 Vallées (the top of the Bouchet chair lift at 3230m).
