The British love skiing in France.
In fact more Brits travel to France than any other ski country, with 35% of us travelling there compared to 28% for Austria and 15% for Italy.
The Five Top French Ski Resorts
According to the Ski Club of Great Britain’s industry report, the top five ski resorts for British skiers (in alphabetical order) are:
La Plagne
Les Arcs
Meribel
Tignes
Val d’isere
Looking at the list, it’s easy to see why these resorts came out on top – all offer great accommodation in large ski areas.
Paradiski
La Plagne and Les Arcs are both part of the Paradiski ski area, linked since 2003 and now offering access to 400km of marked pistes, as well as glacier skiing.
Another reason for the inclusion of these two resorts is probably because between them they account for seven resorts-within-a-resort. In La Plagne, there is Plagne Centre, Belle Plagne and Plagne 1800. While in Les Arcs, you could include Arc 2000, Arc 1800, Plan Peisey and Vallandry.
Meribel
Meribel was founded by Briton Peter Lindsay back in the 1940s and has remained popular with our nation since. Particularly well known for its chalets, Chaletline offers 54 catered chalets in Meribel, ranging in size from 6 to 30, plus 2 chalet hotels accommodating 50 or more guests.
Located in the middle valley of the world-famous Les 3 Vallees ski region, Meribel is perfectly located to explore the world’s largest ski area, whether on a day trip to Courchevel, Les Menuires or Val Thorens.
Espace Killy
Tignes and Val d’Isere make up the stunning Espace Killy ski area, named after the Olympic winning French ski racer Jean-Claude Killy.
There is a wide choice of chalets in Tignes and in Val d’Isere – between them there are over 120 chalets on offer and it’s probably this wide choice that leads to its popularity with the British.
