Courchevel has long been one of best ski resorts in the world – with amazing skiing in Les 3 Vallees – the largest ski area in the world, great shopping, glitzy restaurants and apres ski, the resort has almost everything…except perhaps a quality swimming pool.
Courchevel Aquatic Centre to open in 2015
That will be fixed starting from December 2015 when the super-smart new Courchevel Aquatic Centre will open for the 2015/16 ski season.
A €67 million investment
Holiday makers to Courchevel this winter season may have noticed the massive development going on in Courchevel 1550 (or Courchevel Village, to give it its ‘new’ name).
The complex will cover 10500 sqm and will cost €67m.
Ski resorts are evolving
It’s a major investment by the resort that recognises that modern skiers are looking for more from a ski resort than just skiing.
Ski resorts are constantly evolving as destinations and the new aquatic centre will provide relaxation at the end of the day, more bad weather options, fun for families and high altitude training options for athletes.
Well-located for all areas of Courchevel
The project started as a result of a survey in 2011, which showed that despite a large number of pools and spas in hotels, only 6% of holidaymakers had access to them.
The site in Courchevel 1550 was chosen, partly because it was one of the few areas large enough to host such a project, but also because it links well between the different Courchevel stations.
As well as the existing excellent navette service, a new lift will be installed connecting the complex with Courchevel 1850, and the escalators that descend from the centre of Courchevel 1650 (Moriond) will be extended.
As well as swimming pools, fitness rooms, spa, restaurant and shops, a new three-star hotel will also be built on the site, as well as a large sports hall with room for up to 1200 spectators.
The resort estimate that up to 120,000 people will use the facilities each year. Personally, we can’t wait!
