Following on the back of her superb 7th at the Sochi Winter Olympics, yesterday Team GB athlete Katie Summerhayes was crowned World Junior Champion in Ski Slopestyle.
Her win was at the Junior World Ski Championships in the Italian resort of Valmalenco.
The Sheffield-based 18 year old defeated some competitors of the highest level by scoring 86.80. Second and third place went to Norway’s Johanne Killi and Germany’s Sabrina Cakmakli respectively.
Other British athletes also recorded great results, with Katie’s younger sister finishing 11th. In the boys competition, Cal Sandieson came 7th, Mike Rowlands 30th and Joe Hides 43rd.
Great Britain Freestyle Ski Head Coach Pat Sharples was rapt:
Today Katie totally deserved this win. Her first run she was super technical on the rails and she was spinning both ways on the jumps and included the switch 900. These are amazing results for us as the winter is coming to an end.
Massive congratulations to Katie and Team GB from the Chaletline.co.uk team.
