Already known as one of the best ski resorts in Austria, especially for its end of season concert, Ischgl is improving its lift system again for the new winter season 2014/15.
New Pardatschgratbahn
The original lift was built in 1990 in two sections with a mid-station, but as the resort of Ischgl has grown a more modern lift has become needed.
Construction of the new 3-S Pardatschgrat started in the summer of 2013 and is due to open this winter. It will carry 2800 passengers per hour and take 9.4 minutes to reach the top.
The new lift will be a ‘wind stable, tricable gondola’. This video will give you an idea of how it will look:
World Record height difference
The new Pardatschgratbahn will set a new world record as the biggest height difference for a tricable cable car – 1251 m.
The new top station has been specially designed to allow for any possible subsidence. It has been built on individual adjustable foundations that use hydraulic compressors, and also uses heavy duty cables to anchor it to the mountain.
2800 passengers per hour
At resort level, the bottom station will include a ski shop and the 31 cabins will be stored on this level each night.
The capacity of the new lift will be 2800 passengers per hour, which should alleviate any queues that may previously have occurred.
The upper section of the old gondola will remain, increasing the overall capacity on the mountain still further. The image below shows the impact on the mountain.
Ischgl a favourite amongst the Brits
The resort is already a favourite for British holiday makers and Chaleline offers nine hotels and chalets in Ischgl. Even Robbie Williams made it out here last winter…
These changes will just make it better, so for more information about catered chalets please contact our team on 01822 617761.
