If the great skiing of Les 3 Vallees wasn’t enough of a reason to head to Courchevel this winter, then one event to check out is the FIS World Cup Giant Slalom on 20 December 2015.
This pre-Christmas break will see the world’s best skiers compete in the unique atmosphere of the Emile-Allais stadium, at the heart of Courchevel 1850.
A classic in the calendar
This will be fourth time that Courchevel has hosted this GS event, which has become a classic in the world skiing calendar.
Around 15000 spectators are expected, and 600 people will work to make sure the event is another success.
The best female skiers in the world
Spectators can expect to see the Austrian Anna Fenninger take on the American Lindsey Vonn – holder of a record 63 World Cup victories. Other contenders include Lara Gut, Tessa Worley and Courchevel locals Anne-Sophie Barthet and Taïna Barioz.
The winner will not only get her hands on the title, but also this unique ski helmet – shown below – designed by contemporary artist David Cintract.
It’s certainly pretty bling – you’d have to be a good skier to even think about wearing it!
The event also includes a superb sound and light show as well as an aerobatics show and other displays during the week of the race.
If you’d like to head out to Courchevel to watch this event, or for any week this ski season, then please contact the Chaletline team on 01822 617 761. We offer twenty chalets and chalet hotels in Courchevel 1850.
