The new Aquamotion swimming pool in Courchevel 1550 will have to be seen to be believed. Here are 9 amazing facts about it…
1. It’s an Aqua Centre, not just a swimming pool
The first thing to know is that this is not just a swimming pool in Courchevel. The new Aquamotion Centre will have 7 (that’s SEVEN!) swimming pools, as well as three saunas, a steam room and outdoor hot tub.
2. It’s not just for swimming
As well as all the pools and wellness, visitors will also be able to try out an endless surfing wave, a climbing wall, and a selection of restaurants.
3. It was very expensive
The entire project cost €63 million and was paid for entirely by the resorts of Courchevel.
4. You can ride the rapids
In what we think is a first for a ski resort swimming pool, visitors will be able to ride 110m of wild water rapids in the fun area of the complex.
5. It’s free to get there
The Aquamotion centre can be travelled to free of charge by navettes from Courchevel 1850. Holiday makers staying in the centre of Courchevel 1650 can take a short journey on the resort escalator – and if you’re in one of the chalets lower down it’s literally a 5 minute walk away.
6. But it’s quite expensive once you’re there
The adult price for a three hour visit is €34 and €12 for children. If you want to try the surfing wave then that’s extra.
7. It has a huge footprint
The total area covered by the site is 15,000 metres squared. Designed by the German architect Eric Frisch, the building has been designed to blend into the local terrain. During summer plants and grass will grow on the roof.
8. 25m in pool, 10m on the wall
The four lane pool in the sport area will be 25 metres long. The climbing wall has routes up to 10m high and covers a total of 135 metres square.
9. Feeling hot, hot, hot
Mmmm…what’s better than being in an steaming hot outdoors swimming pool. The temperature of the two outdoor pools will be 34C.
