La Rosière is adding two new chairlifts and five new red runs, opening in December 2018.
The resort is already a great choice for a family holiday. The Espace San Barnardo offers 198km of pistes * either in France or in La Thuile in Italy, which it links with.
The new chairlifts will allow access to a more challenging ski area, making La Rosière a more attractive choice for more experienced skiers as well. The total cost will be around €15 million.
New highest point will be 2800m
The new highest point in the ski area will be 2800m and will be served by two 6-seater, detachable chairlifts: the Moulins Express and Mont-Valaisan Express.
From the top it will also be possible to access some great freeride skiing options.
* Verified number of pistes
La Rosière is unusual in that it has taken steps to have the total lengths of its ski runs verified by independent international experts from Montenius Consult.
It might surprise some of you to find out that the typical way of measuring the length of runs takes into account the skier’s path (i.e the number of turns they take). This means the length of each run is factored up by 30%.
Under this convention there are 198km of runs in the Espace San Bernardo.
However, based on the straight-line distance down the slope – as independently verified – the length of runs is 152km.
This still makes La Rosière the 13th largest ski area in France and the 34th largest in the world!
