In the spring of 2018 the local commune in Courchevel started the construction of L’Alpinium – a new super leisure centre in Courchevel Le Praz, being built just next to the Olympic ski jump.
Preparations for the 2023 World Alpine Ski Championships
This building is part of the resort’s preparations for the 2023 World Alpine Ski Championships, which Courchevel is hosting jointly with Méribel.
The two Les 3 Vallées resorts will share the events. The men’s events will be in Courchevel and the the women’s events in Méribel.
New gondola to Courchevel 1850
The L’Alpinium will contain the base station for a new gondola, as well as a games area for kids, ski lockers, a sports hall and parking for 500 cars. You will be able to buy lift passes inside and there will also be a tourist office desk.
The new gondola to Courchevel 1850 will reduce the lift time to 5 minutes 50 seconds. The resort hopes that the speed of the gondola and the extra parking will reduce the number of cars driving further up the hill into 1850.
The Alpinium is designed to fit seamlessly into its environment
The building is designed to fit seamlessly into its environment. The roof of the L’Alpinium will have a football pitch and running track that can be used in summer but will act as the finish area for racing in winter.
The Alpinium will open in December 2019
Work was already well underway before the 2018/19 season started and the new facility should open in December 2019 ready for next winter season.
