In July, Courchevel and Méribel will open a new road exclusively dedicated to cyclists.
The Col de la Loze will cross the ridge between the two resorts at 2304m and will be the first French pass over 2000m to be cleared of snow.
7th highest pass in France
It will become the seventh highest pass in France and the third highest in the Savoie after the Col de L’Iseran above Val d’Isère and the Galibier by Serre Chevalier.
The new pass will be the first step towards the forthcoming ‘Via 3 Vallées’. This new route will allow cyclists to cross the entire Les 3 Vallées from Courchevel to Val Thorens and enjoy breath-taking views from some of the highest peaks in the Alps.
Before the connection from Méribel, the first official Col de la Loze race will take place on 12 May 2019 in a time trial race open to professionals and amateurs.
Time Trial over two distances
Eiffage Trophy: 22.6 km, 1510m vertical ascent, starting from Le Carrey (845m) at 10am
Felt Trophy: 8.6 km, 580m vertical ascent, starting from Courchevel (1760m) at 11am
While there will be some top-quality competitors, the emphasis will be on the ambience and all competitors will receive tasty local food on arrival. If you can’t make the race on 12 May, there will also be time trials on 30 June and 28 July.
3 Valleys Addict Tour
Keen mountain bikers can also join the Les 3 Vallées Addict Tour. This takes place on 13 and 14 July with a route through Courchevel and Méribel valleys.
