The huge ski area of the Portes du Soleil – with 650km of linked runs across 12 resorts including Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz – is making several changes in the lead up to the new season.
These include an upgrade for the Léchère chairlift and the construction of a new chairlift and new red run on Les Cases
This means Avoriaz will be opening a third connection between its ski area and the Swiss resort of Champéry – Les Crosets.
Léchère chairlift
The current triple chairlift at La Léchère will be replaced with a high-speed detachable six-person chair. It will carry 2700 skiers p/h, compared with the current capacity of 1800 p/h and will reach 1785m, supported by 17 pylons.
The base station of the new lift will move 80m from the existing location to create space while the arrival point will be 630m higher to allow better access to the Apricot run.
The existing La Léchère chair is being dismantled this summer.
New Les Cases Chairlift
At the same time as the La Léchère is constructed, another new 6-seater chairlift will double the capacity for the French-Swiss connection with Les Crosets. This will be in addition to the existing four-seater Mossettes chair, which can close in windy conditions.
The two new Léchère and Cases chairlifts will be operational for winter 2019-20 giving a third link with Champéry – Les Crosets.
A new red run will be arranged up to the starting station of the new Les Cases chair.
