The French ski resort of Morzine is always popular with Chaletline clients. The huge ski area of Portes du Soleil crosses 13 resorts, from France into Switzerland and back and offers 600km of marked pistes.
Despite its popularity, Morzine never stands still. We took a look at some of the changes visitors can look forward to this winter.
The ‘Aigle’ red run
The red Aigle piste has been remodelled. Starting from the summit of Nyon at 2019m down to the Nyon plateau at 1413m, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a run that is three times wider with 2km of groomed pleasure.
The Bélvèdere chairlift
The old four-seater Bélvèdere chairlift has been given a major upgrade. This winter, holidaymakers will be able to enjoy a brand new high-speed six-seater model.
Supported by eight new pylons, the improved chairlift has the capacity to transport up to 2,800 people every hour.
Safer and more comfortable, the improved Bélvèdere chairlift will offer faster access to the beginner area, as well as to more demanding pistes at Chamossière and the fun space at the Pointe de Nyon.
For environmental reasons, the bottom lift station has been designed with a grass covered roof, integrating it perfectly into its surroundings.
The Pas de l’Aigle viewing platform
Although technically this new viewing platform at the summit of the Pointe de Nyon (2019m) opened last winter, because of Covid-19 restrictions, it is only this winter that it will open to the general public.
This 10m-long glass walkway is free to anyone with a lift pass and can easily be accessed by skiers and snowboarders of all abilities from the top of the Nyon chairlift.
Le Pas de l’Aigle floats 350m above the ground and offers a breath-taking 360° view taking in everything from Lake Geneva to Mont Blanc.
Have fun in the new Eagle Park
Eagles are a theme this winter in Morzine and the new ‘Eagle Park’ on the Nyon slopes has been redesigned.
More adventurous snowboarders can test their skills on the new XL Boarder Cross course starting from the top of the Raverettes chair, plus the snow park has been reshaped and increased in size.
The Flocon Vert Award
Morzine has been awarded the respected Flocon Vert sustainability label, in partnership with neighbouring Avoriaz.
Only eight other ski resorts have been given this prestigious award since 2011. The threshold is very high issued based on 20 criteria covering four areas: local economy, social & cultural, governance & destination, and environment & natural resources.
Measures have included the creation of new pedestrian areas, traffic reduction measures, actions to help local business become greener, the improvement of walking and cycling routes, and a commitment to reduce the amount of waste created.
