Méribel has been working hard already to prepare for the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships.
Practice will come this winter season as the World Cup finals take place in Courchevel and Méribel from March 14-20 2022.
World Cup Finals, March 2022
The men’s and women’s downhill and Super-G races will take place in Courchevel and the Giant, Slalom and Parallel from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March on the Roc de Fer piste.
One of the key changes is that a new tunnel has been added in the Cherferie zone so that the resort’s holidaymakers and competitors don’t have to cross paths!
Méribel will host women’s races in 2023
During the 2023 World Championships, Méribel will host all the women’s races, including the Downhill, as it did during the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
Viewing stands will be built to accommodate up to 500 people for the World Cup Finals in 2022 and a whopping 2800 spectators for the World Championships in 2023. The stands will allow people to see the entire slalom races and the last 20-25 seconds of the Giant Slalom.
Extra netting and protection on the snow cannons will also be added as they are requirements from FIS to hold races at this level.
