Longer days and warmer weather are two great reasons why spring is the best time of year to go skiing, but there are some superb festivals to enjoy as well.
These are our recommendations of the ski resort festivals not to miss, in chronological order, this spring:
Rock The Pistes, Portes du Soleil (13-19 March)
Rock The Pistes spans the French and Swiss borders. Almost 30,000 people will attend five on-mountain concerts and more than 30 evening events across the resorts of the Portes du Soleil ski area, including Morzine, Chatel, Avoriaz and Les Gets.
Tomorrowland Winter, Alpe d’Huez (19-26 March)
After the massive success of the first Tomorrowland Winter in 2019, the pandemic put the next two events on hold. So expect a huge turnout for this electronic dance festival in Alpe d’Huez.
Snowboxx, Avoriaz (19-26 March)
Hot on the heels of Rock The Pistes, there are only a few tickets left for Snowboxx and for good reason. Many events claim to have world-class acts, but in Avoriaz in 2022 you can see recent Brits ‘Best Dance Act’ winner, Becky Hill, as well as Annie Mac, Faithless and Paul Woolford.
Altitude Comedy Festival, Mayrhofen (28 March-01 April)
While there are musical acts, this festival in Mayrhofen, Austria is all about the laughs. Founded by Marcus Brigstocke and Andrew Maxwell, 2022 features Rich Hall and Zoe Lyons among a cast of the UK’s best comedians. Ski all day, laugh all night!
Top of the Mountain Concert, Ischgl (02 April)
Simply Red are the headliners for this famous Ischgl season-closing event that has previous featured acts including Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams. The gig is free for all lift pass holders.
Zermatt Unplugged, Zermatt (05-10 April)
This acoustic festival features famous acts performing at venues on the mountain and around Zermatt in the evenings. Famous names performing in 2022 include Ellie Goulding, Thom Yorke and James Bay.
Snowbombing, Mayrhofen (04-09 April)
Do you get the impression that this Austrian resort is a party town? You’d be right, because hot on the heels of the comedy festival is the longest-running alpine musical festival on the calendar. Among the big names you can expect are Fat Boy Slim, Mike Skinner and Bicep.
