The proposed €17 million link between Bozel and Courchevel has been under discussion for years, but at last looks like it may become a reality.
On 15 March 2022, tenders will go out for the construction and operation of the lift, organised by the commune of Courchevel, who are the coordinators of the project with the two other key stakeholders, the commune of Bozel and the Department of Savoie.
Bozel-Courchevel 1550
The proposal is for a gondola that departs from Bozel, at the base of the Courchevel valley, and slightly further up the road and around the same altitude as Brides-Les-Bains.
The lift would go to Courchevel 1550 with a mid-station in Saint-Bon.
Aim to reduce traffic
The creation of the new lift would also lead to the construction of a new car park at the Prés de la Chèvre in Bozel, with at least 250 parking spots. It would be connected to the bottom lift station by a pedestrian footbridge.
One of the key drivers behind the project is the environmental impact it can have by reducing traffic on the main road up to Courchevel. Excluding tourist traffic (roughly 5000 vehicles per day, although this can double in peak periods), over 1000 resort workers drive to Courchevel every day in winter, with 600 of those starting from Bozel.
