Lovers of the world’s largest ski area – Les 3 Vallées – will be pleased to know that the Saulire cable car will be re-opening for this winter in Courchevel.
Damaged during pre-season testing in 2021
The cable car has been out of action since September 2021 when it was damaged during pre-season testing.
At the start of every winter, all lifts are loaded with weights and tested to ensure that the emergency systems all work.
However, during this testing, the top cabin crashed into the lift station and was significantly damaged.
Closed for three winters
The lift has now been closed for three winter seasons – 2021/22 and 2022/23 and 2023/24 – while an estimated €9 million of repairs have taken place. Both 120-person cabins had to be rebuilt and the top and bottom stations were remodelled.
Initially it was believed that the cable car would reopen for the summer of 2023, but that date had dragged on and it will now re-open officially on Friday 06 December.
