Verbier is one of our favourite ski resorts. With 410km of slopes and 80 ski lifts – all with a great snow record at altitude – it has a deserved reputation as one of the best ski destinations in the world.
It’s not just the skiing that makes Verbier such a good choice for a ski trip. In this blog post, we take a look at some of the non-ski activities you can enjoy in this Swiss resort.
The Mont-Fort viewing platform
Whether you plan to ski the incredible backcountry that’s accessible from the top of Mont-Fort, or ‘simply’ the black run back down to Gentianes – or even if you don’t plan to ski at all – you have to take the time to visit the viewing platform at the top of Mont-Fort.
At an altitude of just over 3300m it delivers an exceptional 360-degree panorama of the entire Alpine mountain range, from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn.
Fly at altitude
After you’ve seen the views, the more adventurous can continue to take in the view (providing they keep their eyes open) by soaring over the Tortin glacier on the Mont 4 Zipline.
You’ll reach speeds of up to 130 km/h, over a distance of 1.4 km and a vertical drop of 383m.
Sculptures in the snow
Nature and culture go hand in hand in Verbier. The 3-D Sculpture Park is located between Les Ruinettes and La Chaux at an altitude of 2300m and features works of art from international artists throughout its snowy landscape.
Accessible all year round, it can be visited in winter on foot, with snowshoes or via dog sled rides. Find out more on their website.
Explore Verbier’s history
There’s more culture at the outward-looking Bagnes Museum. Throughout the year, temporary exhibitions feature regional artists and explore themes specific to the Alpine region.
You’ll be transported to the 17th century, with sections of the walls dating as far back as the 13th century. It’s a complete immersion in the history of the region.
Take in a movie
Built in 1956, the Verbier Cinema is a real family institution. Three generations of the Bujard family have lovingly continued the resort’s cinematic tradition over the years.
The original rococo charm of the 590-seat auditorium has been preserved despite the introduction of cutting-edge technology. The latest movies are shown in their original versions with subtitles or in French, offering a rainy day option.
