Courmayeur is set for a major programme of investment for the 2026/27 winter season, with two new gondolas, upgraded snowmaking, digital lift passes and a new dynamic pricing system among the changes being introduced at the Italian resort.
The investment is part of Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie’s approach of what it describes as the “intelligent development” of the resort, using technology and data to improve the visitor experience while making more efficient use of energy and infrastructure.
New Leitner gondolas
The biggest change for skiers will be the arrival of two new 10-passenger gondolas, manufactured by Leitner.
The new Diamond Z Line – Deep cabins will replace the existing Checrouit gondola and Maison Vieille chairlift.
The spacious panoramic cabins have been designed with comfort and accessibility in mind, with padded seats, improved ventilation, sliding doors and enough space to carry skis inside. The lifts are also designed to operate in strong winds, with the manufacturer stating that they can continue operating in conditions of up to 80 km/h.
The new gondolas will automatically adjust their speed according to passenger flow, helping to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
The arrival of the new lifts will also transform the layout of Plan Checrouit. The existing infrastructure will be removed and the two departure stations consolidated into a single new hub, creating a larger open area that Courmayeur plans to develop as a new alpine plaza.

Snowmaking upgrades
Snowmaking is another major focus for the coming season, with five new tower-mounted, low-pressure snow cannons being installed around the resort.
The new equipment forms part of a wider programme to replace 40 snow cannons, with the aim of increasing snow production while reducing energy consumption.
Courmayeur says the entire snowmaking system is powered by renewable energy supplied by local company CVA Energie.
Two new snow groomers equipped with GPS snow-depth mapping will also be introduced. The technology allows the resort to monitor snow depth across the pistes and distribute snow more efficiently, while also helping to optimise automated snowmaking.
Energy consumption across the resort will be monitored through dedicated meters installed on lifts, snowmaking equipment and grooming machines.

New mobile phone lift pass
Courmayeur is also introducing Mobile Flow, a fully digital ski pass which allows visitors to use their smartphone as their lift pass.
Passes can be purchased through the resort’s online shop and activated through the dedicated app, allowing skiers to head directly to the lifts without collecting a physical ticket.
