“Santa Claus is coming to town, Santa Claus is coming to town, Santa Claus is coming to town”
Those words might have been running through your head if you were in Verbier last week as the resort set a new world record for the most Santa Claus(es) skiing at the same time.
Officially, 2656 amateur skiers dressed up in the red and white of everyone’s favourite man with a beard last weekend in Verbier.
A representative from Guinness World Records was present to validate the claim.
To maximise St Nicholas numbers a special free train was put on between Geneva and Châble for any Santas unable to find sufficient reindeer to fly them to the Swiss resort.
The Father Christmases may also have been tempted by the offer of a mulled wine and a 2 for 1 at ‘Chalet Carlsberg’.
The party continued in the resort with raclette on offer and the screening of the film ‘The Rookie’ at Verbier cinema (although we’re not sure how this fits in).
Smashed the old record
Verbier’s previous record was set last year with 1200 Santas, with that figure eclipsing the previous record of 827 Santas at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in November 2015.
Crested Butte have a Santa day every year and 2017’s took place last weekend as well. This iconic event also features a Santa Pub Crawl option and discounted lift tickets for Santas dressed in a full Santa suit with ‘red top, red pants, a Santa hat and beard’.
There’s no claim of a new record, but you can judge for yourself from this video if you think there were more than 2656 of them…
