What’s New in Austria for Winter 2018/19?

The ski resorts of Austria have been busy over the summer with many more lifts and snowmaking. Here’s a selection of some of the main developments for Austria for winter 2018/19…

Record-breaking luxury chairlift for Ischgl

Ischgl has replaced the 30-year old Gampenbahn chairlift with a new six-person lift to be known as the Gampen E4. This luxury replacement has a capacity of 2800 people per hour, with every seat heated and a comfy 52cm wide.

The 900m height increase between the start and end of the lift will set a new world record. It’s a pretty niche category: ‘The greatest elevation difference of any six-seat chairlift’.

Kitzbühel launches two new lifts and expands its snow-making facilities

Kitzbühel’s two new lifts both offer faster travel and state-of-the-art comfort. The 6SB Brunelle chairlift also features heated seats. Upping the ante even further they are made from real leather, will have covers and special wind stabilisers.

The Comfortline S10EUB Raintal gondola will take 10 passengers and chop travel time down hugely from 11.7 minutes to 3.6 minutes.

Kitzbühel has also expanded its snow-making facilities to make sure the Kitzbüheler Horn remains covered throughout the winter.
