Scheffau to open new 8-seater chairlift

A new 8-seater chairlift in Scheffau in the Austrian SkiWelt area will open this winter and will have the largest capacity of any chairlift yet built.

The new Eibergbahn detachable eight-seat chairlift will have an uplift capacity of 4,500 skiers per hour. It has a maximum travelling speed of 5 m/s.

Sustainability is key

Sustainability is key and more than 50% of its energy will be generated by solar panels on the lift station roof.

Seats will be heated but won’t have weather protection hoods in order to decrease weight and wind resistance for greater energy efficiency.

“We have been planning the new Eibergbahn lift for many years. Doppelmayr has succeeded in achieving the required capacity, matching the performance of the previous fixed-grip 4-seater lift”

Andreas Haselsberger, MD Bergbahn Scheffau.

Old lift will still be used

SkiWelt skiers used the previous lift over one million times each winter, meaning that in their 32 years of service, they provided over 40 million rides. The old lift is actually not going into full retirement as it has been sold to Übersee and will begin a second life there.
