This winter will be the 44th winter season of Dolomiti Superski in Italy – one of the few ski areas that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Dolomiti Superski ski area includes 12 ski resorts, 1200 pistes, 450 lifts and 30 snowparks and the season starts this weekend on 25th November 2017 running to mid-April 2018. The linked Sellaronda circuit will be open from 6th December 2017 to 8th April 2018.
Improvements for 2017/18
The area has been working hard to build the infrastructure and improve the offer for holidaymakers. The lift company this year has invested nearly 70 million Euros in new facilities and updating the slopes, of which €12 million has gone into improving the snowmaking.
We take a look at the work that’s been done improving the ski area since last winter:
The Faloria piste has been widened between the Faloria hut and Pian Girilada. This work has increased the skiable surface by 1500m2. There’s also a new 905m challenging black slope called ‘Scoiattolo’, served by the Bigontina chair.
Snowmaking has been improved on Col Rodella and Belvedere, while the 2-seater chairlifts Vajolet 1 and Vajolet 2 have been replaced with two 4-seater chairlifts. The new Vajolet 1 lift has a capacity of 1500 skiers p/h, and the Vajolet 2 1800 p/h. Both lifts can also be used by pedestrians.
In the Ciampac area, the ‘Alba – Ciampac’ cable car has been replaced with a new 10-seater cabin lift and the 2-seater chair ‘Roseal’ has been replaced with a 4-seater chairlift.
The ‘Fodom’ 4-seater chair has been replaced with a 10-seater gondola with a capacity of 2800 skiers p/h.
A new easy piste called ‘Sellaronda’ has been added from the top station of the ‘Portados’ lift to bottom of the ‘Carpazza’ chair.
And in Marmolada two elevators for 40 people have been added to connect the top station of Marmolada cable car to the start of the piste.
