There’s so much more to ski resorts these days than simply skiing. As well as some amazing aquacentres, many resorts now have amazing zip wires to enjoy.
In this blog post, we look at the best five zip wires in the Alps you can enjoy next winter.
Les Arcs
The Les Arcs zip wire takes you above the old ‘Flying Kilometre’ speed racing piste, which is appropriate as you can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h.
Starting from the summit of the Aiguille Rouge, above Arc 2000 and Arc 1950, you can descend as solo or as a pair. The cost is €55 (although it’s included if you buy a Premium Lift Pass).
Val Thorens
‘La Bee’ is a double zip wire, so it’s great fun to do at the same time as another member of your family or ski group.
It takes you through three consecutive zip wires from the top of the Moutière chairlift at 2500m in Val Thorens to Place Caron, in the centre of resort at 2300m.
Orelle
This zip wire is the highest in France, starting in the lesser-known fourth valley of Les 3 Vallées and finishing…in Val Thorens again!
It connects the highest point of in the ski area – the Bouchet chairlift (3230m) – to the Col de Thorens (3002m) over a distance of 1300m in 1 minute 45 seconds.
Serre Chevalier
If you’re in Serre Chevalier in the Southern French Alps, make sure you try the new one-kilometre-long zip wire which links the Grand Serre (2491m) and the Grand Alpe (2193m).
The 300m vertical descent costs €35 per person.
Valmorel
This is one of the newest zip lines in the Alps: more than 1400m long, the Valmorel zip wire takes you up to speeds of 100 km/h.
More than 1400 m long, the Valmorel zip line takes you up to speeds of 100 km/h. Like ‘La Bee’ in Val Thorens, it has two cables, meaning you can do dual descents.
It starts at the top of the Altispace chairlift (1915m) and finishes 150m below, costing €35 per descent.
