Founded by Briton Peter Lindsay back in the 1940s, Méribel has always been one of the most popular resorts for British skiers and snowboarders to visit.
This winter, there are several new developments that holidaymakers can look forward to.
A new black run in Méribel Mottaret
Only expert skiers should take on this new challenge. Located under the Bouquetin chairlift (itself only two winters’ old), the ‘Ibex’ black run is new.
We say ‘new’, but long-time visitors to Méribel may remember it did formerly exist as the black ‘ Bouquetin’ run, but has been closed for several years.
Starting from 2700m, the ‘Ibex’ is a marked run 600m long with a 300m vertical drop that will test even the best skiers.
A new snow terrace opposite Mont Vallon
This is the perfect view to share on your Instagram or Facebook. Enjoy this view of Méribel’s highest peak, the mythical Mont-Vallon, in front of the Méribel letters.
There are tables available to relax on and take a break too. Find this spot at the bottom of the Bouquetin chair in Mottaret.
New Ski Touring route
‘Le Roc’ is a new trail dedicated to ski touring. It’s the perfect location to try out this fast-growing activity in complete safety, on an easy route, close to the ski area.
Find the trail from the top of the Chalets gondola, then put on your skins and off follow the easy route covering 2km in length and 370m in altitude towards Chalet du Lac.
Once at the top, you can take a well-deserved break and enjoy the superb views before skiing back down.
Power up for free
Cold temperatures can be a nightmare for your phone’s battery life, but power anxiety has been solved in Méribel this winter by the provisional of free charging.
Simply leave your phone in one of the closed boxes using a PIN code of your choice. Then take a break, enjoy the views, or do another lap before collecting your fully charged phone.
Charging locations can be found at the base of Mont Vallon and Bouquetin lifts and at the top of Plan des Mains and Plattières lifts, as well as at the OPEN AREA snowpark hut.
Solar Panels to reduce emissions
A new photovoltaic unit costing €200,000 has been installed at the top of the Saulire Express mid-station in Méribel.
In total, 182 solar panels were installed covering an area of 400m2. Thanks to the ‘albedo effect’, the reflection of light from the snow means that the 149 cells per panel can generate from both upper and lower sides. Méribel is the first mountain resort to be equipped with this technology.
