Vialattea ‘Milky Way’ opens for the season

Vialattea – perhaps better known to British skiers as the ‘Milky Way’ area of ski resorts – opened last weekend for the 2023/24 winter.

The area opened on 07 December in Sestriere, one of the eight resorts of the Vialattea, which also includes Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere, Pragelato, Oulx in Italy and Montgenèvre in France.

4th largest ski area in Europe

It’s one of the few cross-border ski regions and with a total of 400km of skiable area across 250 slopes, Vialattea is the fourth largest contiguous ski area in Europe.

With 9 green, 95 blue, 154 red, and 37 black runs, the area caters to all abilities, with a diverse mix of slopes for skiers to explore and an uplift capacity of over 75,000 people per hour.

This winter sees a newly upgraded snowmaking system, with 117 new snow cannons. Other developments include six new state-of-the-art ‘smart point’ ticket stations and new-generation ski lift smart gates to streamline the skiing experience.
